Sophie Turner is the new Lara Croft? Actress to play Angelina Jolie’s iconic character in new Tomb Raider series- Report

Sophie Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, is poised to play the iconic character of Lara Croft, previously played by Angelina Jolie in an upcoming Tomb Raider series by Pheobe Waller-Bridge. Reports suggest that Turner is in line to lead the adaptation, which Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics are producing.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Sophie Turner will play the character of Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming series Tomb Raider by Pheobe Waller-Bridge, previously played by Angelina Jolie. The new live-action series is based on the popular adventure video game Tomb Raider and will be written and executive-produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The project, which received a series order this past spring, will be available for streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Lara Croft was originally a video game protagonist. She has previously been portrayed by notable actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in film adaptations. In October, casting auditions for the series took place, with several British actresses, including Turner, vying for the role. Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven) was the only American on the shortlist. While Emma Mackey (Sex Education) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) also tested for the part.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge shares excitement

Phoebe Waller-Bridge expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life. And I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
